Butel qualifies 10th at Silverstone

Jun 9, 2019

The third round of the British GT Championship arrived at Silverstone. Sprint MG client, Jack Butel, driving for Optimum Motorsport, in an Aston Martin Vantage qualified 10th in the GT4S class.

The first morning practice sessions provided some challenging  wet conditions for all drivers with two red flags, the second of which brought the hour-long session to a premature end.

A drying track during the second practice session provided more favourable conditions and quicker laps times benefitting from the drying line.

Qualifying took place on a dry track with Jack’s best lap timed at 2:13:238 with a combined time with driving partner, Connor O’Brien 4:27:128.

After qualification Butel  commented to the days practive and  qualifying;

“The wet morning was difficult and not the best preperation for Quali, as the track as the track conditions were completely different in the afternoon. The car felt much better than at Snetterton (round 2), and I feeel I could have gone faster. But a 10th place in class has set us up for a good race.”

The British GT Silverstone 500 starts at 12:35 tomorrow with an exciting format and the longest race of the season timed at 3 hours compared to the usualy one and two hour contests.
