Sprint MG Rugby client Tom Everard will be making his first team debut this Saturday for Hartpury RFC against the Doncaster Knights.
After a long pre-season, due to the impact of the 2019 World Cup, Tom will be part of Hartpury RFC’s first competitive fixture of the season in the Championship Cup. His selection in the 1st XV is a big step to earning a professional rugby career, Tom commented;
“I am absolutely delighted when the coach told me I would be starting in the Championship side against the Knights. It’s been a long journey, but it’s been a major goal of mine to reach this level, now I just have to focus and show that it’s a stage where I belong.”
Everard joined Hartpury University in June 2017 combining his studies with a rugby scholarship. He has regularly trained with the first team but until now has only played for the BUCS side. Originally coming to the club as a No. 8, Tom has transformed his game to become a dynamic and influential second row. At the end of the last season his confidence and impact within the BUCS team helped Hartpury University win the BUCS final against Leeds at Twickenham.
Sprint MG Director of Rugby, Jeff Murrells is delighted that Tom’s hard work has been rewarded;
“I am excited that Tom has got his opportunity to play Championship level rugby. Over the past couple of years, he’s had his up and downs, but he battled through them and showed his determination and desire to develop a career as a professional player. This is just the start for Tom, and I can’t wait to see him on the pitch.”
Hartpury RFC make the long trip up North to play Doncaster Knights in the Championship Cup on Saturday 21 September 2019.
