In Part 7 of Sprint MG’s “Getting to Know Lockdown Series”, we catch up with Goalkeeper, Humberto Acevedo on football, life, aspirations for the future and how he’s keeping fit during the lockdown.
What’s been the most challenging moment of your career?
I had a knee injury which kept me out for a while but I was able to overcome it and my game got a lot better through the hard work.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in football so far?
Iker Casillas of Real Madrid was my idol growing up.
Which team mate have you connected with best on the pitch and why?
We get on very well on and off the pitch, which is important with the team chemistry.
What advice would give to yourself at 16?
Always fight and believe in God, nothing is impossible.
What are your career aspirations?
My aspirations is to be the best goalkeeper in the history of my country, to play in the best leagues with the best teams in the world.
What is the hardest part of being a professional athlete?
The hardest part is being away from family and friends but these are the sacrifices you have to make in order to fulfil your dreams and become the best.
How are you dealing with the lockdown and how are you keeping fit?
I work with the team’s physical trainer on Zoom every day in order to keep fit. I am making sure I eat well during this time and praying to God. I do love playing the Playstation as well.
What advice would give to an upcoming player?
I would tell them to dream and to never stop dreaming, believe in God and his work and he will fulfil those dreams.
How do you prepare yourself for a game? Do you have any superstitions? Is there a particular pre-match meal you like to eat before a big game?
I have a relaxed day in preparation for the game which I think is important. I listen to music, sing to God and play on my Playstation.
